The Fight of the Exotic Car Titans – Lamborghini Huracan Spyder vs. Ferrari F8 Spider

exotic car rental: lamborghini vs. ferrari

Only several times in the history come out a car that embodies the timeless elegance and pure raw power in such a combination making you feel like you are standing in the front of a masterpiece in the Museum of Modern Art. Not in front of the car on the parking lot. For me, the 1966 Mercedes SLS Gullwing was one of those cars with such a stance. Today? I could pick only two. The Lamborghini Huracan Spyder and the Ferrari F8 Spider.

Yes, we are getting into an eternal fight of Italian beast-machinery, Lamborghini vs Ferrari (sorry Ford, not today). And it would be hard to pick one. But stay with me till the end of this article and we may just may make a decision. Or we may not, so most likely you will have to decide for yourself. And I will explain to you how.

The Lamborghini Huracan Spyder

I have always been in love with Lamborghini. Sharp edges, that cut through the air like a Japanese katana. Monstrous sounds from elevated pipes. You don’t feel like you are in the car, it’s more like you’re in control of a fighter jet. And this is where the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder takes the game a step further. Its drop-top, or I prefer to call it a Targa. It is the perfection of an open roof, where you really feel connected with surrounding and twisty road behind you, while still retaining the constructional rigidity and cocoon feel of a pure sports car. Something you lose in a classical convertible. The open roof not only brings the surrounding to you, with buffoons of air that occasionally drop a pure sense of thrill, but also it is the sounds it creates (has to be experienced). Then imagine the sound of 5.2-liter V10 sitting just behind your head. No one in this world could prevent you from revving this monster and enjoying the growl that comes out.

The Ferrari F8 Spider

Of course, we can say almost the same for the Ferrari F8 Spider. Similar to Lamborghini, Ferrari features a drop top open cabin, out of this world acceleration and an art-gallery-worthy sculptured body. Where is the difference? While the Lamborghini as like a wild beast that can scare you at every corner and still keep you in love each time you press the pedal. The Ferrari features a more refined feel. It’s like your Iron Man suit. The Ferrari F8 Spyder is not a car you sit in. It is a car that becomes a part of you. Changing gears on the F1-style shifters is so effortless and fast that your brain can hardly process the speed of it. Handling is superb at being perfectly balanced to keep you on the road, yet provides a feeling of flying though every corner. Ferrari never feels like it’s trying to fight with you, Ferrari feels like it is part of you, your new “super body”.

The Nutty Numbers

Both models were introduced in recently, with the Ferrari 488 making its debut in 2015 and the Lamborghini Huracan a year earlier in 2014. There is no mistaking that both vehicles are fast and powerful. Though the Ferrari has more of a lead in terms of pure numbers. The Ferrari boasts a turbocharger on top of the V8 engine to produce 662 horsepower, 172 cv/l, and a max torque of 760 NM and can hit 60mph in less than three seconds. The Lamborghini features a powerful V10 engine that has a max torque of 560 Nm and delivers 610 horsepower. Both vehicles have 7-speed dual clutches, the only difference is the Lamborghini clutch is considered an automatic.

History behind the badge

When you place yourself behind the wheel of one of these beauties, it’s not just about performance. It is status too. You are driving automotive history. Lamborghini and Ferrari were both born from automotive passion that lives in Italy. Enzo Ferrari is the father of the Ferrari brand that started manufacturing cars back in the 1940s. One of the best-known facts behind the Ferrari name is that in the 1920s the Scuderia Ferrari team was started by Enzo Ferrari himself. The formation of this racing team is what cemented his love for automobiles. Ferrari designs their vehicles based on speed and the racetrack and the mindset that goes along with it.

Today, the Ferrari name is one of the best-known brands in the world and for sure in the automotive world. Several decades following the birth of the first Ferrari engine there was another line of vehicles being born in neighboring Bolognese. Ferruccio Lamborghini had the vision of vehicles that were luxurious, fast and smooth at the same time, the pure grand tourer. The first Lamborghini, 350GT, was exactly that, an elegant, fast, Italian grand tourer. But it was the 1966 Miura that brought the famous layout that we love, a rear mid mounted engine in a two seat sports car. No surprise that both, the Lamborghini Huracan Spyder and the Ferrari F8 Spyder, both share the same layout – as proof it was the right design choice.

Roof down and cockpit experience

Both cars are two-seaters and have convertible tops that are retractable. If you are visiting Black & White Car Rental in LA or Black & White Car Rental SF for your vehicle rental needs or are headed to another exquisite destination, you will enjoy the speed and comfort of the 488 Spider and the Huracan Spyder. Driving in California with either of these automobiles with the top down is an awesome experience. As the wind blows through your hair you are free to just relax and enjoy driving one of the best automobiles possible to drive. The Ferrari’s hard top retracts in about 14 seconds. Of course, the Ferrari has its well-known aerodynamic design sporting elements such the single grill opening and an interior that has a racetrack feeling. The interior of the Ferrari goes above and beyond meeting the driver’s every whim and need. The Huracan Spyder by Lamborghini was designed with the ability to retain the look and feel of a hardtop but can also be a convertible. As with all Lamborghinis the car is built to resemble a hexagonal carbon atom. The top of the vehicle sports a soft-top structure that retracts in about 18 seconds – this is a little bit longer than the Ferrari top. The Lamborghini has more than ample leg room with most controls on the steering wheel. There are a few controls conveniently situated in the center console.
